The shot is a mid-shot. The shot
shows the antagonist (Alonzo Harris) on a very powerful and dominant seating
position. This is shown by the way he is s sat spread across the entire chair
leaning forward. This is a very aggressive position also very dominant and in
control while trying to keep the conversation casual. This may suggest he is on
edge and ready to pounce. Alonzo Harris is wearing all black clothing. This may
suggest there is a darker side to him. The colour connotes death which may
foreshadow his own death. Harris covers the entire shot which adds to the idea
that he is the main focus of the scene. The lighting around him is very light
making a good contrast as he is wearing dark clothing making him more notice
able also adding to his importance in the scene. The shot is edited quickly to
the person he is talking; this is because it adds to the pace of the
conversation.
The shot is a close up shot. The
shot shows Jake Hoyt‘s realisation that his mentor (Alonzo Harris) isn’t what
he appears to be. This is shown through his facial expression as he looks at
Alonzo. The angered sinister look suggests his emotional position at the time
and his dropped shoulders suggests submission and disappointment. Jake Hoyt is
wearing a bullet proof vest which suggests in the previous shot he was involved
in a potentially dangerous situation. Other significant Mis-en-scene is the
urban setting. This is one typical convention of a movie in the thriller
genre. The lighting in the shot makes
half of his face lighter than the other this may suggest his coming into the
light of the situation and realising that his mentor isn’t who he thought he
was.
This shot is a long shot of the
house raid. The dress between all the characters involved protective clothing
which suggests they have been involved in a high risk situation. The body languages
of all the characters show they are all leaning forwards towards the centre of
the shot. This shows they’re looking at something of high importance. The still
is shot in a kitchen which suggests they are investigating somewhere that’s
meant to be friendly and casual. This is one typical convention of the movie
genre thriller as they are investigating a crime scene in an urban area. Our
eyes are drawn into the middle of the still which may suggest something
important due to all the character looking at the centre of the still. The
lighting of the shot is low giving it a tense feel.
This
is a long shot. The long shot shows Jake Hoyt walking into a dark street. The
darkness suggests some sort of danger waits. In the shot you cannot see what
Jake is wearing because of the dark lighting making him look like a
shadow. This gives a tense feeling it
also may suggest death is imminent or Jake himself is dying inside. This may
also make Jake seem more like a villain than a hero. The houses in the
background gradually loose lighting and became completely black. This suggests
that the further Jake walks the more he begins to die inside. The darkened
lighting may suggest Jake loss of love for his job after discovering the
corruption ad crimes broken.
