What makes a thriller?

- Tense sounds that will stimulate the scene, increase heart rate make the audience feel nervous.
- Action sequences
- Props that fit well with the mise en scene
- Costume (usually unorganized and dirty)
- Back story usually mysterious/thrilling

- Usual clothing

Themes:
· Crime-Continuous murder or suicide and protagonists has to investigate and find the killer. E.g. 'Se7en'
· Sifi-Extra terrestrials against humans. E.g. Alien 3
· Psychological-Thriller that usually has the protagonist and antagonist battle each other psychologically
· Religion-Usually based around themes that involve angles and demons, heaven and hell
· Action-Fight scenes, chases and explosions.
Character:
- Protagonist e.g. Jason Bourne- Stereotypically male except ‘Kill Bill’
- Antagonist-Stereotypically British or Russian
- Sidekicks/ team-Mainly male based team help the protagonist
- Damsel in distress- Played by female, always in trouble that the protagonist fixes
Narrative
- Starts with problem
- Solving the problem comes at the end
- Fight scene
- Cliff hangers
Characters
- Protagonist- Usually male, has to save the damsel in distress and fixes the problem. Usually beats the antagonist however sometimes antagonist wins and movie ends on a cliff hanger.
