3. What kind of
Media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The production company we have created is
‘Inquisitive Productions.’ We decided to call the production company
inquisitive productions because the film is a detective film noir thriller;
this suggested to us that we needed to have a production company that would
link well with the movie. The dictionary meaning of ‘Inquisitive’ is ‘having or
showing an interest in things’ and because of this meaning it fit well with the
film being a detective thriller. The logo is a police badge up instead of a
standard police badge the badge reads inquisitive productions accompanied with
a picture of a face with a top hat and magnifying glass. The reason for the
design is we needed to find a production company that specified directly on
promoting detective films and the logo was spawned from the stereotypical image
of an old fashioned detective. We took inspiration from characters such as
inspector gadget, who looks like the stereotypical detective. The role of this production company is to be directly
responsible for fundraising the production or this may be accomplished through
a parent company, partner, or private investor. The production company will
handle budgeting, the production itself, post-production, distribution, and
marketing.
A production company is responsible for raising funds for
the production and will handle budgeting, scheduling, scripting, the supply
with talent and resources, the organization of staff, the production itself, post-production,
distribution, and marketing. However, the production companies vary between
films and the genre of the film also determines the production company that the
movie has for example Walt
Disney Pictures is a production company that mainly
focuses on children’s films for example they have helped produce films such as ‘Pirates
of the Caribbean’, The Chronicles of Narnia and The Muppets but would produce
films for adults such as ‘Training day’ or ‘Goodfellas’.
The distributor that I will be selecting is Miramax films. I
have decided to choose Miramax films as the distributor because Miramax film as
are known for distributing independent films and have also distributed
blockbuster films such as ‘Kill Bill’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’. Pulp Fiction winning 1 Academy award and grossing
$107 million and Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 grossing over $180 million. Miramax
have also gone one to produce blockbuster thriller films such as ‘Sin City’,
‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘No Country for Old Men’. Miramax acquired and/or produced
many films that did extraordinarily well financially. Miramax have produced or distributed films
with box office grosses totalling more than $100 million; it’s most
successful title, ‘Chicago’,
earned more than $300 million worldwide and many of the films produced or
distributed by Miramax films have secured Academy award nominations or have
resulted in Oscar wins. The company is currently based in Santa Monica,
California and is currently owned by ‘Filmyard Holdings’ an investment
group after being purchased from Walt
Disney studios in 2010 for $663 million. Miramax films target a predominately
adult audience mainly distributing and produces thrillers, dramas, crime and
black comedies. However they do distribute and produce comedies, fantasies and
most genres.
I have decided to use Miramax
Films as our production company because of their outstanding thriller
catalogue. This would be the best decision because they have a lot of
experience dealing with the thriller genre. Their demographic suits ours and
Miramax have been able to produce critically acclaimed films such as 'Pulp
Fiction', 'No Country for Old Men' and the 'Kill Bill' franchise. . Pulp Fiction winning 1 Academy award and
grossing $107 million and Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 grossing over $180 million.
Due to this I
believe it would be the best decision for our group to use Miramax Films as our
production company.
A title sequence
is the method by which films or television programs present their title, key production
and cast members,
or both. The order of job roles begins with:
Name of the studio that is
distributing the film and may or may not have produced it (Walt Disney Pictures,
Lions Gate, Universal, Marvel Studios, and Miramax.
The Name of
the production company that actually made the film or name of the investment
groups or companies that financed the film (usually credited as "in
association with")
The Producers name or Director's
first credit, often "a film by”.
Starring actors
Order of key production cast members:
FILM'S TITLE, FEATURING, CASTING or CASTING BY MUSIC or MUSIC COMPOSED BY or ORIGINAL SCORE BY PRODUCTION DESIGN or
PRODUCTION DESIGNER: SET DESIGN, COSTUMES or COSTUMES, HAIRDRESSER, MAKE-UP ARTIST, VISUAL
EFFECTS DIRECTOR or VISUAL
EFFECTS BY, EDITOR
or EDITED BY, DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY, PRODUCER or PRODUCED BY, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER,
BASED ON THE BOOK (PLAY, GRAPHIC NOVEL etc.), STORY or STORY BY, WRITER(S) or WRITTEN BY
or SCREENPLAY or SCREENPLAY BY, DIRECTOR or DIRECTED BY
We have reflected this by including some of the casting
members such as cinematographer, director, producers, music by, executive
producer, set design and editor. We have done this because these are the jobs
that we can identify with and these are the jobs the group carried out.
